DR. BEN BASHINSKI, III

retired as of August 31, 2021

Dr. Bashinski was born in New Orleans, LA and grew up in Macon, GA.  He attended college and medical school at Tulane University followed by an Internal Medicine internship at Baylor University before returning to Tulane to complete his residency in Neurology.  Dr. Bashinski founded Neurological Associates of Augusta in 1983.  His wife Dr. Deborah Richardson is a pathologist at Doctors Hospital and together they have two children, Ben IV and Alexis.  Ben IV attended Davidson University and currently serves in the United States Army. Alexis practiced neurology alongside her father at NAA until his August 2021 retirement.

DR. HARRY HUGHES

Dr. Hughes joined Neurological Associates of Augusta in 1992. Dr. Hughes graduated from Pennsylvania State University and Jefferson Medical College. He completed an Internal Medicine Internship at Medical Center of Delaware followed by Neurology Residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. He did a Neuromuscular/EMG Fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. Dr. Hughes is board certified in Neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He is married to Wendy and they have two children.

DR. ALEXIS BASHINSKI SHAEFER

Dr. Shaefer joined Neurological Associates of Augusta in 2016. She was born and raised in Augusta, graduating from Augusta Prep. She then attended Vanderbilt University, graduating summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa with a degree in American Studies. She attended medical school at the Medical College of Georgia graduating as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. At the University of Alabama at Birmingham Dr. Shaefer completed an internal medical internship, a neurology residency, serving as chief resident her final year, and a neuromuscular medicine fellowship. Dr. Shaefer is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine. Her husband Mark is an attorney and they have three children and two rescue dogs.
