Kolyse W. Caver, PA-C.

Dr. Shaefer’s Physician Assistant

Kolyse Caver, PA-C is a certified physician assistant who joined Neurological Associates of Augusta in 2021. She works primarily as Dr. Shaefer’s PA. She attended Georgia Southern University and was a member of the Honors College, graduating magna cum laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and emphasis in Exercise Science. She then completed Augusta University’s Physician Assistant Program and obtained her Master of Physician Assistant degree. Kolyse is board certified by the National Commision on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). She previously worked in the field of orthopedic surgery for one year in Covington, GA before moving back to Augusta. Her husband Kyle is an engineer, and they love spending weekends on the lake or playing sports. In August 2025 they welcomed their son Camden, who is absolutely adored!


Lacey Preston, PA-C

Dr. Hughes’ Physician Assistant

Lacey grew up on the south side of Atlanta in McDonough, GA. She attended the University of North Georgia and graduated magnum cum laude with a Bachelors of Science in Biology and an Associates of Science in Chemistry. While studying she was working as a CNA at a neurological rehabilitation facility. She attended Augusta University’s Physician Assistant program and graduated summa cum laude in 2020. She enjoys spending her time off work with her husband Matthew and her son Zeke.


Elizabeth Tyson, DNP

Dr. Shaefer’s Nurse Practitoner

Elizabeth Tyson, DNP, ACAGNP is a certified nurse practitioner who joined Neurological Associates of Augusta in 2025. She works primarily as Dr. Shaefer’s NP. She attended Converse College earning a BS in biology.  She then completed Augusta University’s Clinical Nurse Leader Program obtaining her Master of Nursing. She went on to obtain her Doctorate of Nursing Practice concentrating in acute care and adult gerontology. Elizabeth is board certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. She previously worked in the field of oncology and hematology for 10 years. Her husband Steve is a history teacher and football coach. Together they have two dogs Clyde and Arnie and two cats Bitsy and Teddy. 

 

Nassim Nabavi, PA-C.

Dr. Shaefer’s Physician Assistant

Nassim Nabavi, PA-C is a board-certified physician assistant with nine years of experience in outpatient neurology who joined Neurological Associates of Augusta in February 2026, working closely with Dr. Shaefer. She is passionate about providing thoughtful, patient-centered neurological care.

Nassim earned her Physician Assistant degree from Emory University in 2015 and is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Earlier in her career, she worked for four years as an intraoperative neurophysiologist, caring for patients across the Southeast, including Augusta, followed by two years as a radiologist assistant. She relocated from Atlanta to Augusta with her husband, who is completing psychiatry training.

Nassim was recently recognized in America’s Best in Medicine for her contributions to the community. She takes a holistic approach to care, focusing on lifestyle changes, movement, and breathwork to support neurological health. Outside the clinic, she enjoys an active life with her husband, two boys, and their Siberian husky.
